How each of us practices medicine is uniquely shaped by our experiences. Christine, a nurse practitioner as well as former EMT & Army medic, speaks with medical professionals from all specializations across the globe about the stories that have influenced how they practice medicine. Paramedics, nurses, doctors, & more recount tales that range from funny to wild to profoundly moving, but no matter the role, culture, or country, all are working to make humanity better any way they can.

Christine is joined from the other side of globe this week by Hayley, a British nurse teaching English to nursing students in Japan. Hayley shares the story of her former colleague & fellow emergency room (A&E) nurse Jane Clough who was taken from this world far too soon due to domestic violence & the failure of proper protections under the law. Hayley also shares what Jane’s parents are doing to try & prevent this tragedy from happening to anyone else in the UK. At the end Christine & Hayley discuss the moving moments when patients have opened up to them in the midst of chaotic days.

Christine chats with Eliza, an American nurse living in the United Kingdom, about the differences between US healthcare and the National Health Service. While there may not be nurse practitioners, as much gun violence, or health insurance woes the heart of nursing stays the same. However, you may want to choose your words carefully, a common term in American English just might be embarrassing British slang.
